Chamber Work Begins
January 18th meeting signaled the beginning of a new year for the chamber.

Installation of a new president, Conrad Koppenhafer, was first on the agenda. Marie Taylor will continue as vice president for a second term, Carol McKay secretary and Lorri Harrison treasurer, both serving second terms as well.

The main goal of the chamber is, and will continue to be, addressing the issues arising from the proposed bypass of Highway 97 and its' effects on the City of Dorris. We continue to keep in touch with Marlene Woods and Barbara Lauger from Cal-Trans and Dan Ripke from the Center for Economic Development, who's main focus is, business retention and expansion efforts, also establishing a long term effort to provide comprehensive information and technical assistance to local businesses in Northern California.

The chamber will continue to work with Brian Hoffman, Siskiyou County Economic Development Council.

A member or members representing the chamber will continue to attend meetings with the Klamath/Lake/ Modoc/Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Working Group as well as other organizations which can provide help and information for our city and community.

Meetings
Chamber meetings will continue to be held on the second Thursday of each month. Location of the meeting place will rotate between restaurants, the RC & D office and the meeting room of the Nazarene Church. The rotation is the result of a survey taken and voted on last year. Times and location will be announced in the Butte Valley Star.

The Presidents Corner - Conrad Koppenhafer
For those of you who were not able to attend our March 8th meeting at Primo Pizza, you really missed something! We had an interesting discussion with project manager Carl Anderson and project engineer Julie Casey from Cal-Trans regarding the Highway 97 by pass. Brian Hoffman from Siskiyou County Economic Development Council, spoke about ways that we can minimize the negative impact of the by pass. He recommended a committee be formed to proceed with the planning process. You will be hearing more about this from me soon. Also attending was Barbara Dillman Superintendent for Siskiyou County Schools and her husband. Thank you Barbara for your very informative and important input.

Butte Valley Chamber Discusses Goals for Year 2001
The Butte Valley Chamber of Commerce has discussed having a ground squirrel hunt in the area as a community event, as well as the possibility of having a black powder and fun shoot day as a short term goal.

President Conrad Koppenhafer had stated at our January meeting that he would like the Chamber to consider several goals, short and long term.

The Chamber is always open to any suggestions that may be of benefit to the community, we welcome you to attend our meetings and give your input as well as any help you may be able to provide. The obligation of citizenship challenges every person and institution to subscribe actively to the advancement of the community which he or she is a part of. By helping to build a thriving community your investment is strengthened and your opportunities are broadened, so please join us, to help us help you. The February meeting included discussions on the up coming auction in June, the forming of a committee to plant flowers along Hwy. 97 on Dorris hill, the possible help of other service organizations in the community, also some type of welcome sign if its' permitted. Also discussed was the possibility of applying for TEA funds for a visitor center in Dorris, with the proposed by-pass a visitor center would be a great asset to Dorris.

Website News
According to recent web site statistics, I am pleased to report that the Chamber site is doing quite well. As of March 8th 2001 the site had a total of 13,688 accesses since May 1st of 2000. Some are from individuals that have either lived in the area or had family here.

E-mail is received from all over the world including Spain, Argentina, Indonesia and Italy to name just a few. Comments from those who see our site are of a very positive nature, most comment on what a great site we have.
